Or a telephone pole...

Broken rib and a concussion.. better than death :-P

hitting a deer at 70 mph is another. I wasn't even close to being injured and the air bags didn't deply either. I was just angry at the deer. Then I was thinking what if I was in my talon? The car is lower then the tour and the hood is sloped down more....the thing would have slid right up into my face

I wish the NHTSA would call out the IIHS on its test standards. It'd be nice to have someone other than the car magazine editors publicly pointing out the lobbyist BS.

That said, I also think Ford should have ponied up and put side bags as standard equipment in all the Fusions. ABS, too. I think it'd be a good positive public-relations move.

Seems like a fluke. I wouldn't be concerned about buying a Fusion. Get into a front end crash driving an S-10 and you may be lucky to keep your legs.

Be concerned about your insurance rates, however. My mom bought a Fusion and was then shocked to receive her insurance bill. Just over $1000 every six months. My mom has never had an accident or a speeding ticket in her life. Insurance on her 2001 F-150 SuperCrew was never more than $600, even brand new.

The insurance company referenced this very test as the reason for the rate.

You're also comparing two VERY different vehicles. Compare weight, ride height of the driver, and the fact that the truck is on a box beam frame and not a uni-body will make a WORLD of difference. Compare rates between a Fusion & an Accord or Camry. Those should be similar.

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

I would kick that insurance company in the face if they tried that on me!

Tell your mom to shop around.

If I were to change the insurance on my Mazda6s to a Fusion, the difference would be $10/month, explainable by the fact that it's 3 years newer. That's $100/month for 300/100/300 coverage.

For comparison, the Contour was rated Poor in the front collision, again, due to foot issues. No side was performed...

I don't see this really impacting sales that much though, I mean the fivehundred/montego got gold awards and the sales on those things have been slow. I don't think Americans really care about safety that much.

Five Hundred sales are actually quite good, with February sales at 8096 Five Hundreds and 1896 Montegos. That's almost 10,000 total, and a significant increase over 2005 (even with the new buzz over Fusion/Milan and higher sales from them).
