If it's leaking that bad no sealer is going to work. To me I wouldn't bother with any sealers.

alright, i think what i'll do is get some sealer tomorrow and see how it handles. if it doesn't work i'll have to take it to a shop. that's too big a job for me to do...

i'll post the results and costs...

The seal is not leaking in a manner so that a sealer could have any effect.

It has dislodged and the only thing that is keeping the fluid in there is the leak rate of the bellows.

If you run the system dry, you run a very serious risk of burning out the PS pump.

alright, stop leak didn't work... i'm probably gonna have to replace the rack... i've been looking around for a rebuilt rack and they always ask me if i have 14" or 15" wheels... i have an SVT that has stock 16" wheels...

is there a difference between SVT and non-SVT racks? or should i just get one for 14" 15" wheels?

The difference is in the steering stops. The SVT is different. If they are not asking about the SVT (16" wheels" you probably won't get the correct one.

That said, there are a lot of non SVT's running SVT wheels with no noticable problem.

got a quote from a Firestone service center... rounding the numbers i get about $600 for the part and labor, and about $100 for an alignment...

i don't know exactly how much they're charging for the part...i'm gonna go to the shop 2morrow and check. if it's over $200, do u think i should buy my own, and where should i buy it from?

i checked Kragen and they have one for $198 and they're probably gonna charge for shipping...

do think AutoZone or Advanced Auto Parts, or Pep Boys would have a good steering rack?

Probably tie rods.

I damaged the power steering pump on my 95 Contour SE after the pressure hose developed a major leak. Just a few short trips with little or no fluid can damage the pump and cause it to "whine".

I still got ripped off by a garage that charged me $371.00 to replace the pressure hose! Ouch! The hose is under $40.00.

Before I knew the pressure hose was leaking, I stopped at
Ford Dealer for a price on replacing the steering rack.
They wanted over $1000.00 to replace the steering rack and align the front end.

As previously stated, the cross-member has to be removed to replace the rack.

I feel your pain!
