The engine is over the rear and with wide sticky tires, it'll get plenty good enuff traction. AWD would slow it down more than "marginally" over the length of a road course.
But I guess you better tell the enzo, C6R, GTSR, GTOR, GT3 Cup Car, F1, NASCAR, etc. designers that they're doing it all wrong.
