Ford has made some revolutionary vehicles and I would enjoy nothing better than to see them continue into the next century making great cars. That said, I don't think it is unreasonable to expect top notch reliability from a car, expecially when we are all aware that it is being done by some of Ford's competitiors. As a matter of fact I don't thik Ford has a choice if they want to stay competitive in business in the long term. I really don't think you can reasonably argue that Ford cars are as reliable as some of the Japanese automakers. I just read an article that is a little promising but shows that the US automakers have a long way to go to catch up to Japanese reliability.

Well if I'm not mistaken, the US is doing better than Europe in that little chart you posted. BMW, they're German right? Germany, they're in Europe right? PM me your address, because I want to send you a clue.
As for your SVT's reliability. I'd love to see exactly what's gone wrong with it since you've owned it. This all started because your battery died. Boo Hoo! My SVT has been meticulously cared for since I bought it NEW in 2000. I know about EVERYTHING that has happened to this car. The only things that have gone out on this car, are due to MY ABUSE! Put me behind the wheel of a BMW, ANY BMW and I'll show you broken European parts. So please, do tell what has gone so terribly wrong with your SVT!
