And in reality, the Marine Corps doesn't need the Air Force to get around...hence the term Marine (My Ass Rides In Navy Equipment)
Maybe not to get around, but a B-52 or B-1 with JDAMs can loiter through lunch and dinner, unlike the "one pass, need gas" Hornets and Harriers that you jarheads use to carry iron.
