The move is saying that, but that's just a byproduct of the real reason they're making the change... desperation for more soldiers.


The Army has been lowering its standards for a few years. IIRC, previously they dropped the requirement for even a GED to become enlisted....

The NG's recruitment drop off is because they are actually being used and the majority of the 'new recruits' over the last decade or so went in solely for the college money associated with doing basically nothing. Now, they see that there can be service required and they don't want to do it.

In my expereince, there are way too many reservist in for the wrong reasons. Most of the ones I spoke with said they didn't think they would have to go anywhere and came in for the college money.....
