The breakdown HAS to happen though. Whether you're aware of it or not, you need to become aware that you are no longer a self. You are a gear in the machine that is the military, and you need to especially lose sense of self if you're going to be infantry. I'm not sure of your story Fmr. I don't think the problem is with today's youth, I think the problem is that we are in a time of war and we are exhausting our resources. Unfortunately, it seems that instead of those that usually should be weeded out in Basic for lacking the moral/physical/mental standards we are meeting that lack of resources by just lowering those standards. They are doing that by coddling the fresh recruits. This isn't too say all new recruits are a disgrace, but this new process is definitely going to allow quite a few of those types that should have been attrited, through. I don't believe that the Army basic or any military basic should be adapted to a developing society's standards. War is and always has been the same beast. True, today's war is developing and turning into a different type of animal, but that does not by any means that it's become easier or requires a lesser soldier. And to me, that's what this move is saying.
