please show me where the honor and respect towards anyone other than one's self is in mainstream rap, ie ingoring the religious and will smith subsections.

i must agree with you guys but when you go deeper into the industry you would look at things differently. a few weeks ago there was a show calked video vixens and these women claimed that most of these guys videos wouldn't be anything if they weren't in the video.

in my eyes its a double edge sword. its eye candy that they are in the video but it takes alot away from the artist.

i my self dont listen to much rap anymore its more reggae music.

Degrades women huh? Ever watch Chris Rock - Never Scared?

A funny bit out of Chris Rock's "Never Scared":

Now I'm 39, right, and I still love Rap music. I love rap music, man. I love it! But I'm tired of defending it. 'Cause you gotta defend rap music man, cause people are always like, "that's not music! that's not art! It's garbage! How can you listen to that garbage! How can you listen to that trash?!" And in the old days, it was easy to defend rap music. It was easy to defend it on an intellectual level. You could break it down intellectually, while Grandmaster Flash was art, while Run DMC was art, while Fu-Diddy(sp) was art, and music. You could break it down, intellectually. Ok, and I love all the rappers out there today but it's HARD to defend this **bleep**. It's hard, man. It's hard to defend "I got hoez in diff'rent area codes." It's hard to defend "Move, **bleep**, get out the way..."- Well as you can see, there's a **bleep** in his way, that he needs to move! Thus, the term "Move **bleep**, get out the way!" You need to open yo' eyes so you can get the **bleep** outta YOUR way!

My favorite song right now is impossible to defend. It's impossible! We should all be ashamed of ourselves for liking this song! Lil Jon, you know dat, "To the window, to the wall! 'Til the sweat drip from my balls! Till the sweat drip from my balls, skeet skeet skeet skeet! You know what's real wild? You go to the club you'll see girls dancing to that [edit]!. . . You know how people always say rap music is misogynistic, and degrading to women, but what I realized, man, is that women that like rap, don't give a [edit]. Women that like rap don't care what they saying- If the beat's all right, she will dance all night. Women don't give a [edit], the nastier, the better. I seen girls on the floor dancing to the nastiest **bleep** ever made. They be on the floor to [edited because of language - CLICK HERE to read] And you know what's wild? You tell the girl that the song's disgusting and misogynistic, they all give you the same answer: "He isnâ??t talking' bout me!". . .

Love rap music, tired of defending it. It's real with rap music, man, you either love it or you hate it. Even the United States Government hates rap! Know why i say that? 'Cause they don't arrest anybody who kills rappers!. . . [edit], you want to get away with murder, all you got to do is shoot somebody in the head and stick a demo tape in his pocket!

"This is a rap killing! Let's go home!"

The government, hates rap man. **bleep**, if Billie Joel, Elton John and David Bowie got shot, they'd have Bruce Springsteen's house surrounded! And only the good rappers are dead! Tupac, dead! Biggie Smalls, dead! Vanilla Ice, still alive! You mean to tell me they can find Saddam Hussein in a hole and they can't tell me who shot 'Pac! They found Saddam in I-RAQ! Tupac got shot in Vegas!

AMEN!

if people didn't like it and it bothered so many woman and men, then it wouldn't be the single largest music movement right now. it has found it's way into every single style of music and is really bringing new stuff to the table. degrading to woman? only if you take it all seriously. enjoy the music for what it is, not what you think it is trying to be.

those same 90% are set in clubs or at parties (uh oh...concept!...that's where their target audience is). go to one of those clubs shown in 90% of the videos and tell me you don't see the same thing. the music is playing to their target audience and it is doing a good job at it.

music has to be about honoring and respecting someone besides yourself? since when did this rule come into effect?

Only in the united states...

In basically the rest of the world, techno is king. I wish we should replace all the rap stations with techno stations. Its be a much better place.
