After work, I had to get to a fairly important meeting about 40 miles away. Just a mile and a half down the road, the Contour gave a little sputter and died. I had just enough momentum to coast to the side of the road.
Had it towed from Sanford, ME to Clair Ford in Saco, ME. (little over 23 miles) Guess my AAA-Plus membership just paid for itself.
Sure hope whatever's wrong will be covered by the extended warranty.

That sucks but I don't think this post belongs in the common interest. Maybe troubleshooting.
Hope its covered in the warranty, if its the timing belt, then expect to pay some big money.

The warranty doesn't cover timing belt problems and if the car just stop suddenly because of the timing belt broke (only situation that I can think of) then the cams came out of alignment which is a pain to fit and will cost alot if thats what happend.
Hopefully not.

Gates belt kit with idler pully, set cam timing, done. Maybe $400-$500 with added stuff like an oil change, fresh wipers, fluid top off, balance/rotate tires, etc., etc.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

That's an idea to, im sure a timing belt snapping would cause quite a loud snap.

We have a Winner!!!
Went to the dealership today and they told me the fuel pump had failed. They had to order the part, so my car will be in the shop for another day or two.
At least I have a rental vehicle to get around in.

Isn't it a non-interference engine? (like our 4-banger Zetecs?)
Manufacturers should build engine that won't cost a head-job when the belt breaks. (even better, use timing chains instead)
