Ok, awhile back I got an overflow tank from someone on here. I finally found 10 mins of my life to swap it out(i know b.s.). kept the cap that came on the tank and filled it up, drove to work yesterday and drove home, when i got home, the car sounded a bit funny and i decided look under the hood, and noticed i had some coolant on the tank, i thought odd. so i shut the car off and heard a slight hisss from the overflow tanks cap. I already had a new cap that i had bought when i first broke the cap on my older tank. Replaced the cap this morning before going to work. got here and shut the car off and popped the hood and heard the hissssing noise again from the cap. Is this normal??? My old tank had a little hose coming from the back corner of the tank like an overflow drain tube, my new tank does not have this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The one he is one I sold him. It's off an early 98 SVT. The early cars still utilized some of the pre98 stuff like the LCA's etc.
-'96 SE MTX 3L
-'98 SVT 1,173 of 6,535
-'05 Mazda 6s, loaded, g/f's ride

so is my cap bad? its brand new(i know new parts can be faulty)and the seal on the old cap looked smaller in width than my new cap but both have a hisssing sound coming from them when the car is shut off after it reaches normal running temp. Todras, thanks again for the tank, everything hooked up great to it, just worried about the cap and the noise.

While your new cap may not be bad, I would suggest putting back the one which came with the recovery tank. At least, then you know that it is one desgned for it.

If you are saying that the new cap is not the the correct replacement for the original tank, I don't know what good that would do. In fact, it might be worse if the coolant tank is not able to hold pressure due to the cap neck not being long enough for the tank to block the hole for the hose (to hold pressure). Once again, I would suggest using the cap which came with the tank that you bought.

the cap that came with the tank that Todras sold me is the same type of cap that I bought, the cap with the longer neck is on my old tank that busted(the cap itself busted). I had assumed the cap that was on the tank that todras sold me was the correct cap and when NAPA sold me the same cap i figured it was correct. Just want to know if the hisssing should be there or not.

I would say that if it is not hissing when the engine is running, you are fine. If it is hissing after the engine is turned off (after reaching normal operating temperature), you should be fine too. I would be concerned if it is hissing with the engine running (as it would mean that your coolant would be boiling over before reaching normal operating temperature). You would have to add coolant more often than normal.
