So I was coming home from ice skating with the gf. And I here this pop noise at idle it does it about every 4 to 5 secs. So I was almost out of gas. I put high-test gas in the car thinking ok maybe some bad gas or condensations well that didnt fix it. So I am sitting at the light at the cars running rough around 1000 rpms so I bring it to 1200 I take my foot off the gas and it falls to 450 now I have a vacuum gauge in my car and it didnt move it took its normal reading at idle around 21 20 so I am pretty sure theres no vac leak. so yesterday I took all the plugs out. They all look fine not showing any sighs of running to rich to lean. All the wires look fine not cracks or white spots and to top it off theres no CEL. So I am stumped any one got any ideas.

Is "high test gas" equal to HEET or gas stabilizer? If not try that first. And you may also need to change the fuel filter. If it is a really serious misfire or vacuum leak, eventually a CEL will pop up (pardon the pun) .

I am having a similar problem with my 96 contour, but now my car is stalling when it dropps to idle. Changed fuel filter today no change. Post the solution if you find one.

Scan for OBDII codes (Autozone or buy a scan tool at Sears or auto parts store, the cheapest Actron will work), first, and look for any dubious wiring. Please post the codes. You could have a bad ignition coil or crank/ cam sensor.

A intermittent code would not light up the CEL but it will be stored in memory.

My guess is plug wires or plugs. Swap a few wires with #6 to see if the misfire follows. If yes, wire problem. If no, then swap plug locations.

Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.
