I STRONGLY suggest you get the upper oxygen sensors changed out first. It's about time for them anyway & that step may cure the problem, so it's not money out the window.
Vibration: have your plug wires & plugs changed. About time for those as well. Use Motorcraft wires and Autolite double platinum plugs for best results in a V-6. Also perform a throttle body cleaning. Won't hurt, might help. Easy do-it-yourself in an hour kinda job.
If the P0420 does not go away after the sensor change and plug & wire replacement, send me a PM as I have a pair of pre-cats from a low mileage 2000 Contour.
