My friends,

I need a good mechanic in NJ that does work on SVT tours. The green machine is suffering from a bad wheel bearing on the right side. I need to have this fixed because the noise is driving me up a wall. Someone please help and tell me that there is someone out there (other than a dealer) than can work on the car for relatively cheap.

Although my mechanical skills are extensive, fixing this is beyond my capabilities. If the person is credible they'll get additional work from me as well (rotors, struts, and a good tune up).

Recently had the heat blower resistor go, these forums helped me find out what was going on.

Help please.

i cant help you with any mechanics in the NJ area, but this post (as well as many others...mine included), gives me an idea

we should make a comprehensive database of reputable mechanics in our areas. something we can refer to if we have questions like thses. ok, im done being productive for the day lol

ok...back on topic

Which is surprising that it hadn't been done already. I say you bring it up with the Master CEG'er. We should have a list of reputable shops.

But nonetheless. I still need help.

i too am in need of a new wheel bearing ... i believe mine to be comming from the drivers side rear... it is driving me crazy as well... Altho its not a hard job... All you have to do is remove the spindle and then take it to a machine shop or some where that has a heavy duty press and press out the old and in with the new...

I have a quick question tho... does it sound like a kinda metal on metal type grinding sound??? thats what mine sounds like n i was woundering if in fact it is my wheel bearing and not like my caliper sticking or something... I havnt looked yet... I've been living with this for about 2 weeks now and i cant much longer lol... Also i've heard that if its say the front drivers side u jack up both sides of the front end put it on stands and if the front tire wiggles then that means the wheel bearing is bad is this true??? thats just what i've heard i have never tried it... i've had to replace wheel bearings in some of my hondas in the past but never done one on a contour... so it maybe alittle more work that hondas but i doubt it...

i have never hear of a wheel bearing sound like metal on metal. I jsut had to replace my front brakes and sometime I could here a constant metal on metal grinding sound at low speeds. I had gone through the lining on the pad on one side, new brakes and it was all set

I had a wheel bearing go out on me so bad once it was almost as loud as my exhaust system before it was fixed!

They can be loud, and irritating

My mechanic since I've owned the SVT has been All American Ford in Hackensack. They have treated me and the other CEG/NECO people I have sent over, right. They are a little expensive, but do good work. Talk to George W. there and tell him I sent Chris A. sent ya!

I did mine a few months ago... That was a fun job. It took a 5lb. sledge hitting the bolt that holds in the ball joint to break it free... I ended up pulling the whole control arm off with the knuckle then pounding the bolt out... What a pain.

Brad (the_spy_guy) had his done at Sears and it was like $160 I think. Pretty good deal, especially considering it cost me $75 to have the old bearing pressed out and the new one pressed in.
