Yeah, code is a great minimum.....but would you trust everyone who lived in or worked on your house before you bought it to follow it? There is the issue.

I'll grab a drywall knife and some sandable 90 at the Home Depot. It's in a tight corner, but I should be able to manage. It's a burst pipe (runs along the front wall of the basement, and I suspect that the previous owners left the tap shut for the winter, so it should be a straight cut and replace.
