More likely, you lost the vacuum to the control switch.

Loose vacuum, the airflow defaults to the windshield. Every Ford is the same.

Look under the hood for the single vacuum line that goes through the firewall. Don't recall off hand exactly where it is and I'm not going outside right now since it's only 16F outside... It isn't too hard to find.

EDIT: Just remembered... There is a vacuum motor directly above the gas pedal that performs the switch from the defrost to the other outlets. The linkage on mine came off a couple of years ago and also caused this symptom. Had to virtually stand on my head and look up to see it and to reconnect it. Check that too. Someone had posted a pix of it a year or two back, maybe you can dig it up with a SEARCH.
