I dont consider the GTO and the MS3 to be in the same circle when shopping for a car. Botha re completely different vehicles and peope look for them for completely different reasons.
The GTO is RWD V8 raw powered coupe. The MS3 is fwd boosted 5 door with more utility than the GTO. Both are great at what they do but serve very different purposes.

I *was* thinking about one of the Mazdaspeeds until I remembered that they're 93-octane only. I can't justify buying a car that requires the most expensive gas and doesn't get super mileage off of it.

Oh yea BOTH care completely different in aspects of purpose. Definitely don't count on the GTO carryig luggage because the trunk sucks. But if you are looking for speed the GTO will be hard to beat.

Well, isn't THAT a snotty answer. Find me the rule that says "sports cars" have to be fed 93.

small boosted 4's run hotter and faster than big N/A engines. they need the octane to reduce knock at high RPMs. a less aggressive custom fuel map or bigger nozzles may let you get away with daily activity on a performance turbo 4, but then, why bother with a performance turbo 4?

What sports car is not either gonna take premium or get not great gas mileage or both? Get a geo or a base civic if gas mileage is your number one concern. I didn't see the ms3 mpg but I bet it'll be AT LEAST 20/27 which is plenty good. Usually when you buy a sports car, performance is your number one concern (while keeping price in mind of course). Why would you even want a sports car if you're gonna shift by 2800 every time to have good gas mileage?

Geez, give me a friggin' break. I never said gas mileage was my NUMBER ONE concern. Try a little balance, people.

I think a turbo 4 banger is about the best balance you'll get from a common sports car. I really don't know what you expect, 40mpg outta a performance car? Or 30 less hp and run on regular?
