In my opinion mazda has really dropped the ball when it comes to performance. The rx-8, while a great car really does not have the horsepower to meet it's competitors. The new miata's handling is nothing special, the same can be said for the engine. The ms6 has a worthless nose heavy four wheel drive system. And finally the ms3 will be going for around 25k and does not have awd. I just don't see any product on their entire price line that entices me.

Probably because they're using the same 2.3L.

Nothing special compared to what else? I drove one at the Zoom-Zoom Live events and it was fantastic in stock trim. The body is a bit higher than an autocrosser would like, but nothing some springs or coilovers can fix. The engine had plenty of pep for the weight of the car. I didn't get to do any full throttled 3rd gear runs because the autocross course was tight, but 2nd had plenty of pep for the weight of the car.

Definitely. I read in Autoweek last week the Caliber SRT-4 has 300HP. Yaozah! I hope they can put it to the ground. Weird how both manufacturers have the capability to put AWD but choose not to. I guess cost and weight would be too much.
No official weight yet on the two models. However, I believe the base model Caliber comes in at 2966 lbs. Thats with the meager 1.8L. Whereas the 2.3L 3s Hatch weighs 2808. I suspect the MS3 to weigh not that much more.

Yeah, as opposed to all those Rear-Engined AWD cars out there.

Wait a second. I thought you said AWD was "worthless" and "nose-heavy".
