The flagship of the Mazda3 range, the all-new Mazda3 MPS, will give sports-minded customers a double dose of Zoom-Zoom driving fun. Mazda3 MPS is the second model in the Mazda Performance Series, following the Mazda6 MPS launched in Europe a month ago. The car will be called Mazdaspeed Axela in Japan, Mazdaspeed3 in North America and, in other key regions including Europe, Australia and New Zealand, Mazda3 MPS.
Mazda looked to embody the three distinct attributes with the new vehicle: Driving Fun, Ownership Delight and Everyday User-Friendly Convenience. With its compact, lightweight body and substantial power generated by its 2.3L MZR DISI TURBO petrol engine, Mazda3 MPS is one of the most powerful high-performance sports compacts with front-wheel drive (FWD) on the road today.
The car's styling pursues a look of strength and solidity in a design that conveys its unmatched dynamic performance at a glance. Mazda3 MPS reflects Mazda's intention to continue delivering Zoom-Zoom in all its products.
Impressive -- is this 2.3t going to end up in a Focus ? Although its cheap enough -- supposed to MSRP under 25k USD.
I guess it already has since the new UK Focus is built on the M3 platform right ?

US Focus != UK Focus
I'd be surprised if the 2.3l turbo made it into a US Focus. SVE doesn't seem to want anything to do w/ <$40k vehicles anymore.
The MS3 vs. Caliber SRT-4 comparos will be interesting.

I doubt that it will be in the 5 door as well, every recent mazdaspeed version has been concepted in the hatchback (both the protege and the mazda6) and then they used the sedan instead becuase of the stiffer body.

they also used the sedan because US customers have created a stigma against hatchbacks.

I wonder if Ford will ever come around on bringing the UK Focus to the US. I'm actually thinking no, because the Mazda 3/5 and the Volvo S40 use that platform, and the current US Focus platform can be built and sold at a lower price point.

i have been following the Speed3 very closely cuase its what i want for my next car. That info has been out for a while and im suprised no one linked it earlier... i was too lazy to.
All i can say is i hope they go with the HB 5door. All the prototypes/spyshots have been 5 door and all the press photos have been 5. Some guy when down to his mazda dealership and put down his downpayment and the salesperson told him the speed3 will only come in 5 door and should be in show rooms in september. This is prob speculation but we will see.

Ford will not be updating to the UK Focus chassis during the US's Focus update for 2008. I don't like that, but it's all about money. Also, I would have to say that, at least in North America, the current platform is just as good as the competition's new platforms. They just need to dress it better and get the message out that it's reliable (which it is but has the stigma of the first 2 years of production still).
Personally, the MS3 will be coming out about the same time I will most likely be replacing my Contour, so I'm seriously considering it.
