My rental car for the rest of the week is a new Impala. It has the 3.9 (242 hp) engine.

Nice car. I like it much beter than the Pontiac G6 I had a few weeks ago.

Maybe GM really is getting their act together.

Looks decent. I just saw a Malibu Maxx SS... nice blue, dual exhaust, looked/sounded good. If I decide to go the beater route after college, I'd say GM is starting to be worth a look. Though, it is hard to top the tC in terms of value vs. reliability ('sides, I need to leave as much money as possible for the 'Tour).

I was in Las Vegas 2 weeks ago and I had the same car and engine combination from Avis. I set the cruise at 110mph going through Death Valley for over 30 mins, just below the limiter at 115mph. It sure sucked back a lot of gas, but it felt comfortable.

I looked at a SS the other day and it was very very nice even though it was an auto.

What do you expect for doing 110mph in heat? It's geared for 55-75 mpg freeway driving not triple digits!

Anyway, the car looks like a vast improvement over the last gen. Definitely closer tot he mark, but still not up to par with the imports.

[funny accent]What are you talkin about??? That's awesome![/funny accent]

That looks like a 94-96 RWD 5.7L 260HP LT1 equipped Impala SS...

Quite a bit more powerful than any (except the newest) Crown Vics.

Let's just say my friend's 95 9C1 w/LT1's speed limiter was 125, which it hit HARD!

I remember that...top speed on the lt1's is 155mph. The cops couldn't keep up with him. The new SS has 300 horsepower though.

There are rumors bouncing around about a V8-spec Impala to see police duty. Keep an eye out for that one.

I love the new Impalas. Much better car than the last one. I think the new Monte Carlos would be pure sex if they cam with RWD. oh well...

I'm sure the new Impalas are nice, but they look like pooh. It's like a bloated Cobalt, or something less inspiring. I know it's a boring midsize car with a conservative nature. But at least make the thing look somewhat interesting, like a 500 or 300. I mean, who the hell signs off on that design and thinks to themselves, " yeah that's great!". It's not great, it looks like sh!t. If Chevy made cars that people wanted to own they might sell more of them.
