Yes, hard acceleration is fun. Being thrown back in the seat is a cool feeling. Drag racing is not stupid. I like a fast driver's sport, you like a fast car's sport - that's fine. I'm probably going to do some drag racing this year.

But don't ever mention street racing here. It is stupid. There are certainly times when speeding isn't dangerous, or at least not dangerous to anyone but yourself. But most street racing - maybe not you, but in general - is putting other drivers in danger. No matter how fun it is (I'm not denying that it's a rush, especially with a sleeper) it's an irresponsible and stpuid thing to do. If you lose it and hit a mom driving home to her kids, how are you going to feel? On public roads your only concerns should be the safety of others, and yourself. I have no problem if people want to do risky things, but putting innocent people at risk is horrible. Don't argue about how you only do it when it's safe - you can't possibly know that it is 100% safe all the time, and the point is that most street racers don't try to make it safe for others. That's why we don't talk about it here. It's absolutely unnaceptable behavior, and I will call in anyone I see street racing to the cops if given the chance. There are people on the roads that I love, and I want them to be safe. Drunk driving, street racing, and otherwise not being 100% in control when driving will not get you anywhere you want to be.

I see your point in this. but.....
Would u really call the cops if you saw people racing??
Wow don't come to SE michigan, the cops would get sick of u calling every friday and saturday night every 2to3 mins.

Just when i travel to school 3 days a week. I have an average of 8 poeple a week trying to race me on the e-way!!

Yea they race a lot around here. Go down I75 through Detroit about midnight to five in the morning Friday and Saturday. There are minivans running at 110mph, not including the performance cars. sometimes I'll rather drive through downtown then go on the freeway, more safe.

I guess that it depends on how serious you are about getting into the twelves.

This guy shaved two seconds off of his quarter mile time without any power adders

Calling the police doesn't do anything... unless the cops happen to be right there and catch them in the act. But who takes that long to race? I've been called in before and got stopped. Wasn't anything the cop could do since he didn't see it happen. Funny thing is, they also pulled over some random honda instead of my friend's se-r.

seriously, you'd probably wind up with a car resembling one of those pro drag civics, with the front wheel wells tubbed out and big ol' drag slicks on the front, plus a wheelie bar on the back. But you'd have other problems, such as a tranny to handle the power and constand stress, and driveshafts that wouldn't snap in half from the power. Bottom line is, you'd have a car that's just not driveable on the street - and well, what's the fun in that.

Wow, cry me a river here. Like I said, I street race, but I don't go mentioning it here every post. I mentioned it here in the context of me enjoying straight line acceleration, going head to head, more than I like to auto-x. And yes, I will argue with you on the fact that street racing CAN be SAFE! We've got TWO different places with a stop light, and over a mile of open highway with ZERO intersecting streets. If you think that a Mom in her minivan is going to come screaming out of a field into the highway, you're just looking for something to whine about. It's my choice, I'll continue to do it, and you can preach about it all you want. And calling the cops on people who race? Wow, you must not have made many friends when you were in school.
I'd love to try an open track event sometime. Unfortunately, the closest one is down in Indy, about 2 hours away. That sounds like it's a little more my pace, with other people actually being on the track at the same time. I think it'd be pretty fun.

Come down to the tail of the dragon sometime. You can't really pass anyone (other than sight see-ers), but it's higher speed/longer than autox and risky with the cliff on one side and mountain on the other. Fall meet is usually in October.
