I don't get why people want to drag race this car. It's not meant for it and it's really expensive to make it a drag platform. Slap a set of headers, exhaust, intake, gc's with koni's, decent tires, and go do STS autox or take it to a road track. It would be a whole heck of a lot more fun and it's what the car is meant for.

Why? Because the CSVT excites me. Personally, I'd rather fist myself than do another auto-x. I get absolutely zero enjoyment from driving through pylons, only to chew the sh!t out of my tires when I'm all done. I don't talk about it here on CEG, but I street race more than anything. Not many people on the street want to go head to head around 800 orange cones for some reason. Straight line acceleration from 0-120+ is what I personally get a thrill out of. Seeing Mustang GT guys look over at you when you're inching by, now that brings a smile to MY face! Auto-x is a race against the clock, and then the next guy is up to beat that time. The competetive side of me wants someone right there next to me, working just as hard as I am for the win. I like Mustangs, Corvettes, T/A's, etc., but the Contour is a nice car to drive around in with the windows down, where I don't have to worry much about the cops chasing after me, but it still turns a lot of heads. People take cars all the time, and do stuff that they aren't "meant to do." Well, mine is meant for abuse, how's that? It's meant for abuse, that's what it likes, and that's what it gets.

I wouldn't want to autox again if I couldn't drive worth a crap either. One autox, when driven properly, will hardly wear the tires.
But I understand what you're saying bout enjoying drag racing. Not everybody likes the same things. Personally, I like all aspects of a car's performance. I prefer to focus on the car's strong point (handling) but handling is useless if you don't have the power to use it (i.e. my zetec).
Has anybody ran with some slicks (not just DRs) on a contour yet?

I had a set of slicks on my 95SE. It was really fun on twisties because they gripped really really well. Sucked when I forgot I had them on and we got the first snow or when it rained.

Go do an open track event. And I used to have the same mentality about the 'underdog' car winning. Then I bought a Lightning and my eyes were opened to my stupidity of dropping thousands of dollars into a car that now runs mid-14s and maybe a high 13 on the bottle. Again, if you can Mark, go do an Open track event and your eyes will be opened.

Yes, hard acceleration is fun. Being thrown back in the seat is a cool feeling. Drag racing is not stupid. I like a fast driver's sport, you like a fast car's sport - that's fine. I'm probably going to do some drag racing this year.
But don't ever mention street racing here. It is stupid. There are certainly times when speeding isn't dangerous, or at least not dangerous to anyone but yourself. But most street racing - maybe not you, but in general - is putting other drivers in danger. No matter how fun it is (I'm not denying that it's a rush, especially with a sleeper) it's an irresponsible and stpuid thing to do. If you lose it and hit a mom driving home to her kids, how are you going to feel? On public roads your only concerns should be the safety of others, and yourself. I have no problem if people want to do risky things, but putting innocent people at risk is horrible. Don't argue about how you only do it when it's safe - you can't possibly know that it is 100% safe all the time, and the point is that most street racers don't try to make it safe for others. That's why we don't talk about it here. It's absolutely unnaceptable behavior, and I will call in anyone I see street racing to the cops if given the chance. There are people on the roads that I love, and I want them to be safe. Drunk driving, street racing, and otherwise not being 100% in control when driving will not get you anywhere you want to be.
