Word. I've known many people at the professional level who drink/party before a race or game. Hell, we did it back when I rowed... and were were third... on the continent.
All I know is that everyone is different, and some people can/need to party before a big event to loosen up. While I don't think he always makes the smartest comments, he's one of the top skiiers in the world, and knows what works for him.
