I just bought a 98 SE (5 sp, v-6, power windows, no leather, sunroof or CD) with 61k for $4,100 last week. The car needed new tires (I paid), new fuel pump, the rear windows only go up and down via the front controls and wheel bearings (they are supposed to fix this next week - I held out a little cash to give them an incentive). I would recommend going over the car with a fine tooth comb.
FYI: I like the car, though it's a little tough for my kids to squeeze into the back; but I did not buy the car for the back seat. I bought it for the 6 pack under the hood and for how it handles.
I almost bought a Maxima with a stick but it was a five years older with more miles at about the same price. My two cents.
