Component speakers can be great & are preferred if you can find a good set for a reasonable price.
Personally, I shop specifications:
Freqency response should be near 20Hz to 20,000Hz (20kHz) - 35Hz to 30kHz is common, but you're obviously losing some lows.
The typical person can hear 20-20.
Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) - generally not used with speakers
Signal to Noise Ratio at least 90 DB
