what kind of HU? if your using stock I would replace that before messing with the speakers.. If you have an aftermarket HU then def go with components.
Have you ever looked through the grill on your door to the speakers to see how poorly they line up? more than half of the speaker actually fires right into the back of the door panel.
With components you can mount the tweeter externally and get those nice clean highs that are muffed by the doors on a normal speaker.
