What are your guy's opinions? I have had various Pioneer 2 and 3 ways for the last 3 years but from what people have been telling me, Pioneers suck. So what have I been missing? I usually have the high pass filter on so bass isn't a HUGE issue but for right now, I don't have a sub so yeah. I'm on a budget so I'm not gonna spend over $100 on one set of speakers and even then I don't want to spend that much. How are Sony's speakers? I like the fact that they are red and match the car but how do they sound? I'm open to pretty much anything.

run run run from sony for your door speakers. Almost decent bass, but the mids and highs are horrible. Pioneer really isn't that bad...just a good all around speaker for it's price. I have had infinity kappa speakers and those were good, alpines are a little overrated, and kenwood has suprised me as to being a very good speaker as well.

Most speakers for our doors arent gonna give you much bass...they arent deep enough to put a lot out...Basically anything is a step up from stock. Walmart Pioneers are actually a decent speaker if you just want to upgrade to somethin without spending a lot of money to do so. I picked up a pair of new Infinity's for i think 50 off the net and im really happy with them, very clear and pretty much bolted right up...and yes, as stated, stay away from the xplodes!

IF you want to get any bass out of your door speakers without it sounding terrible you really should make sure that you buy component speakers.

I just changed my front Pioneer TS-A6870R speakers with Infinity Kappa 682.7cf speakers.
Pioneers were decent but Infinity is 100 times better. My rear Pioneers are getting changed soon with the Kappa's also.

what kind of HU? if your using stock I would replace that before messing with the speakers.. If you have an aftermarket HU then def go with components.
Have you ever looked through the grill on your door to the speakers to see how poorly they line up? more than half of the speaker actually fires right into the back of the door panel. With components you can mount the tweeter externally and get those nice clean highs that are muffed by the doors on a normal speaker.

I've had pioneer 3ways for a while too. Good bang for the buck, I guess ($50 @ walmart), but there are better speakers. Just go with some Infinity Kappas and get a decent Headunit if you still have the regular svt cd player.

Component speakers can be great & are preferred if you can find a good set for a reasonable price.
Personally, I shop specifications:
Freqency response should be near 20Hz to 20,000Hz (20kHz) - 35Hz to 30kHz is common, but you're obviously losing some lows. The typical person can hear 20-20. Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) - generally not used with speakers Signal to Noise Ratio at least 90 DB
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

I'd recommend polk audio. Kinda pricey, but have yet to disappoint me in any of my experiences with them. Infinity also makes a good sounding, higher quality speaker.
