they are talking about it on CNN, so i got to hear the narration, or at least some of it. Dude sounds british and he is either off his meds or is some sadist, either way he sure is enjoying it. Apparently it was taken 2 years ago. It also said the voice was another bristish soldier, so i dont think it was dubbed in. Tony Blair seems quite upset, so says CNN, calling him "visibly shaken". I imagine this will be the brits abu graihb (sp)?
what ever happened with the whole abu graihb thing anyway?

If that voice wasn't added in later, it is one of the most disturbing things I have heard in a long time.

If you guys had ever been there, you'd see how wholly undisciplined and downright rotten a bunch of those kids really are. They LITERALLY, and I mean LITERALLY sit there when the news cameras are around and act like those kids on all the "Aid" commercials, and when the newspaper reporters turn their backs, they'll flip you off, throw rocks or garbage right at your face, then turn around waiting for a chance to smile in the camera. They pick on other kids, they run around in little cliques and wreck stuff. Maybe it is a product of so many men lost in the Iran-Iraq war that left many of them fatherless. I don't know, but only a few women will actually come out and take care of the kids. The way we handled it was to let the Iraq police take care of them. We just got them on the radio whenever the kids were getting out of control, (things like shooting rocks from slingshots at the guards, stuff like that) and the Iraqi police would take them around the corner (or maybe not) and just kick the crap out of them too, sticks hoses, whatever was at hand. The make those British soldiers look like good samaritans. Just FYI, that is not tolerated by the Americans NOR the British, but stuff happens you know. You also ought to know, those Brits were much nicer than their own police and you ought to be giving them a medal instead of making a big deal. Think of the most out of control kids you've ever known in USA while growing up. THen magnify that at least 10 fold if not 20 fold! Then take away the well defined law system, the social services system, and a good chunk of the parents who actually care what their kids do during the day (for whatever reason) and then THIS image in your mind...This is the image of the male youth in the bigger cities of Iraq. I don't joke about this stuff. If you are going to condemn those soldiers, think on this first, put yourself in their position and then pass judgement. He who is without sin cast the first stone right?

I guess the thing that causes most normal civilians to become angry about this is that we equate teenagers here (USA, the west in general) to those in the middle east. This is obviously not the case, since not nearly as many teens here are so malicious in their actions. A 13 year old American is not at all the same thing as a 13 year old Iraqi. Growing up in such a f***ed up environment, it's no wonder why this is the case.
Typical western teen acting up = vandalism Typical Iraqi teen acting up = roadside bomb
Maybe not typical, but you get the point.
I'm not justifying the actions of the British soldiers, just trying to give it some perspective.

TH writes...
....FYI ,the British army has a lot more experience with kids/women in these situations than the Americans. From my own personal experiences it's usually the kids who can 'set up' a hit on troops etc.The normal practice is for kids to carry parts of a wepon/bomb into a safe house...one bit at a time, the shooter or bomber goes to the house after all the parts are there...can take days/weeks for the 'kids' to drop off the bits...the hit is made and the soldiers die...easy!Women are also used...a baby in a stroller etc is a great way to move around 20>30 lbs of explosive etc.....Been there done that. The sooner American troops become more aware of the involvement of kids and women in this war the more Americans will stay alive....Take a lesson from a country that had a war on terror for over 30 years...you may stay alive!!!
....take 2 or 3 lbs of PE,add a det and press a few large stones into the PE to cover it....looks like a rock eh!.....arm it, throw it....BAMM!!! 3 or 4 dead /mamed soldiers,YOU write the letter to the wife/mother husband' 'Pvt Jones had half his face blow off by a kid who threw a 'rock''....good job eh 'kids'!!!Bull S**T.....EVERYONE is your enemy!!!

Good info Tom.
I am at the point where I am hating the media, Foxnews included. All the media reports are the 'bad' things happening over there. I continually here and see the good things being done over there by the guys in the tree suits. And knowing first hand what people go through forward deployed its irratating.
Keep fighting the good fight.

Welcome to the world where ALL world events are viewed through the reckless lens and commentary of Western media, where if conflict isn't "polite", done by the rules and there's a camera around, say hello to a court-martial...
Good news doesn't get ratings; most of the television-watching population in the West are practically lemmings in terms of sucking up hype, exaggeration and operatic TV journalism. It's really not about the story anymore; it's about who can throw enough adjectives at a story during a voiceover in such a way that yanks an audience further into their program. There are just too many that are willing to subscribe to a puddle-deep view of world events so as to sound somewhat tolerable at the water-cooler the next day, instead of wishing to understand all facets of the issue.
Anyway...
I can't imagine the stress of being a walking target (albeit a well-armed one) on a daily basis in a war zone that is only starting to simmer down. That doesn't excuse beating the living s**t out of a kid or two in a moment of frustration, but it should preface the point that nerves HAVE to be raw over there among the troops, given tightening troop rotation schedules.
Maybe the brats tossing trash and rocks at the troops asked for the whipping; maybe they didn't. The media has already served as the popular judge and jury here for all intents and purposes the moment this was released (TWO YEARS LATE APPARENTLY), so I fully expect the military barristers to have marching orders that this now POLITICIZED "situation" is to be handled as one that will show the press and the world that has their information filtered through the popular media outlets as a "situation" that requires "examples"...
...no matter what merits that the particular troops may have performed in the past.

Talk to a military member who has been deployed over there. Civil Affairs, etc. I've been to two presentations by Lt Cols. and seen pictures of the good, etc. 3 elections, GNP is up (I forget the specific percentages), etc. The country IS making progress. If you go specifically off media coverage, one would think its complete anarchy over there.
