With modding the y-pipe, the how-to shows you having to do some cutting/welding then fitting to the car and then some more work. I think the shops around here would charge more than $40 (even with me taking it off, fitting it). Maybe I'll just keep an eye on the classifieds.




$40 or $50 would be a good price to mod a Y at a welding shop. It really is easy work, and they'll do a fantastic job of it. If you take the Y to a muffler shop, bend over baby Kremit...

As for the pre-cats, you might want to do the mystery mod if your car has a tendency to stall or sup'm (i.e. if you're certain that they are a problem), but the performance gain would not be noticable if they're not clogged/deteriorating.

Save up for MSDS headers, sup'm like $228 shipped from Marty & you don't really have to worry too much about coatings in the south - except for the heat shielding benefits. Heat won't be too much of a problem if you run the stock air box and perform a few engine bay venting tricks... THAT is bang for the buck.
