Well, figured I'd post this -- maybe someone will get a kick out of it. It's not an SVT story [I was in my SHO].

I was coming back from the Arden mall today [of all the scary things] and making the left turn from Arden onto Arden [just before Howe] there were two guys behind me in some type of BMW. They seemed to be screwing around a little and rushed up behind me as I was accelerating around a van so I could get in the right lane to turn onto Howe. I took the inside lane coming around the corner doing around 25 or 30 and they pushed into the outside lane [3 lanes wide] and gunned it.

Not enough space so I waited until we managed to hit a red light at the intx w/Fair Oaks side-by-side. He was definitely ready to race so I made sure he knew I was too and when the light turned we took off. Luckily there isn't any access for a decent distance once you go past Fair Oaks, so it was reasonably safe [well, as safe as street racing ever is, which is very dependent on your brakes and your attention, both of which I maintain quite well].

I don't know what was wrong with his car... It has the ['95+] M3 body, M3 badges, M3 wheels, an aftermarket exhaust [I think -- it was quite loud], dual gold racing stripes [on a silver car... ugh], no plates [Niello BMW on the license frame]. 1st-gear, bad launch for me, but was for him too... he's half-a-car length behind. Grind second [oops], he's catching up, *oh* there's second, start pulling away again... Shift to third and he's over two car lengths back and just getting smaller.

His exhaust was loud enough that it sounded about as loud as my intake from inside my car [I have an 80mm MAF and some other stuff and it gets pretty loud]. Got some strange beat frequencies as the revs varies between the two cars -- sounded so bizzarre -- like something was busted. Anyhow, ramble ;-)

If anyone happens to run into this guy [I don't think you'll see another silver Beemer with gold racing stripes], I'd be interested in seeing how he does against the SVT... They should be running [acc. to magazines] around a 14.2-14.6 @ ~98. He had one passenger so that probably slowed him a bit but I know my SHO isn't *that* fast. Maybe a 328 in disguise [rather silly... as that's more expense than a nice new M3...]

BTW...

Drag strip opens for Wed night drags on Feb 14th. Who's up for going? I need to run my SHO w/& w/o my 80mm MAF to see whether the chip + MAF are really doing anything [I think they are but I never trust the butt dyno].
