This may be my next car. I've heard price will range from near Neon SRT-4 price to under $25k. I suspect it will come in around $23k. Decent fuel economy for my 80 mile/day commute and big enough for two car seats as a secondary kidmobile. Unfortunately, I've got to wait 2 years to buy my next vehicle. Any other opinions? Sorry but that is the ugliest vehicle this side of the Aztek and Edsel.

I actually kind of like it. It's a lot smaller in person than you might think from the pics. The base Caliber starts at around $14K... not too bad for an econo-beater.
The only problem with it - and I'm not sure the SRT version addresses this - is that the interior materials are perhaps the cheapest I've ever seen. I got in a Caliber at the auto show. When I closed the door, I thought "this thing is good for about a dozen closes before it breaks." A lot of the switchgear felt the same way.
I might check out the SRT when it comes out to see if I get the same feeling. This car's built on the new Lancer platform, so it will probably have a lot going for it.

i saw it at sema and it was fugly. in fact, no one was looking at it. it was all customized but just sat there by its lonesome. imo, it was about the size of a pt cruiser, maybe a little lower (heigth-wise).

I like it! I say go for it.
I'll reserve final judgement until I see it in person though.

I have to admit its the best looking Caliber that i've seen. I may actually consider one when the time comes to upgrade.

I don't love it. Don't hate it either.
From a practical perspective, it hits all the notes of utility and sport for a guy in my position.
And you have to respect 300 hp and 260 lb-ft. in something the size of a Matrix.

I would take the engine out and put it in something thats worthy. That is an ugly vehicle. But...people bought those Aztecs and those half plastic trucks, so I'm sure someone will buy these.

Agreed. Same feelings surface when I look at a Focus. Just not my cup of tea. I will likely pass on it as the next car in the stable will likely have RWD or AWD and possibly a V-8.
The Fusion/Milan are nice, but IMHO need a more powerful engine option & possibly AWD. A RWD V-8 Milan or Montego would be loads of fun, but I don't expect to ever see it offered. If it ever was, I'd be FIRST in line to purchase.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.
