Didn't do it myself; went back and forth about it, and ultimately decided that it was too much sq. footage for me to do alone or with occasional help. So I went with a reputable local place that had good word of mouth.

Here's the front room before...

And after (still need new blinds and a new fan)...

There are some nailheads here and there... floor thickness must have been borderline, which is a surprise, since the house doesn't seem to have seen much renovation in the past 50 years.

Definitely the best $ I've pent on the place so far.

Nice job.

I actually just did some of that myself. Bought a new house last month and went to work on it for a couple weeks before moving in.

Here's a couple pics of mine:

(note that it's not really quite as yellow as it appears in those photos)

Funny that you need exactly the same things in your main room after doing the same floor/paint work that I did -- new window coverings and a new fan.

Looks great Viss1!!

Sigma, were those the original hardwood floors, or did you lay that down yourself? That looks awesome!

Wow...very nice. I'm looking to get this done myself in the next couple weeks. Might be hard to tell, but they're pretty well beat.

Couple questions if you don't mind me asking...did you paint the walls before or after they did the floors? Also, what did they zing you per sq foot?

Painted the walls beforehand. Nice not to have to worry about splattering/spilling paint.

$3/sq. ft. to sand and apply 3 coats of polyurethane. Needed to start from scratch with the sanding (36 grit). Took 'em 4 days.

Hmmm...I agree with not needing to worry about the floor. For some reason I'm concerned a bit about the dust on the walls afterwords.

I was quoted 3.50 a sq foot...but I don't think I have as much that needs done as what you had (just living, dining, and computer rooms).

Looks nice though. You happy with natural or wishing you'd gone darker?
