from what i understand about how the radar works is it can clock you when the cruiser is sitting still or moving.
not sure if it corrects for movement or not, but if it doesnt, it is easy to calculate.

if the cop is going 50 and the radar picks you up at 15, you are going 65.

so that my account for the radar/estimated.
the radar picked up your speed relative to his speed and he had to calculate it(estimated)

don't quote me on this, i could be entirely wrong.

I actually inquired about this at a recent traffic hearing. The Estimated is used because the officer visually noticed that you were speeding (or not in this case). Then, the Clocked states that after visually estimating your speed, the officer used radar to verify your speed.

This reminds of one time when I was driving on 128 in the far right lane in heavy rush hour traffic. I was anticipating my exit to rt.3 north and was in a line of cars as far as the eye could see, front and back. Everyone was gonig well below the speed limit, and all lanes speeds were varying. The right lane (which I was in) was actually moving a little faster than the lane to the left. I came up on a full sized Ford Bronco on the lane to the left. It had the spare wheel cover on the back that said Bronco. When I got up beside it I realized it was a Mass statie. I was just moving with traffic when he got on the bull horn and said, "DO NOT PASS ON THE RIGHT". I just looked at him as he was staring at me. I don't know why he picked me out, prolly cause of the NH plates. I kept my speed the same and took my exit and just stared him down!! haahahh

I think the main reason for pulling you over was the time of day. Anyone out at 3am should be pulled over, unless you are driving an 18 wheeler. Did he immediately search the car with a flashlight? Looking for burglary tools, stolen goods, drugs.

i have to disagree pappy.
i am on the road saturday night and the occasional friday night at that time. some times earlier or later.
i am leaving work at that time, and i dont feel that i should be pulled over just because i am out at that time.

What's your reasoning for that? People are not allowed to drive after a certain time?

No, he didn't search anything. No flashlight even with him.

completely agree! when i work nights and get out at 5... id be pretty pissed if i was to get pulled over every night coming home 'just because' im awake then. we shouldnt get pulled over for nothing just cuz we have a different work schedule 8-)
on the other hand. on my months of working nights ive only seen one cop on my way home.

Hey come on guys, we gotta remember pappy is an old man and more than twice the age of most of us, and has long since gone to bed while most of us are still up and about wide awake
