I ran the Mintex A/F pads on the front and liked them. Didnt track the car but for repeated street use they were great, even when I had a bit too much fun on the mountain road near my home. Dusting was meh, but I was quite happy with them. They did seem to have a slight warmup when it was cold and the rotors had time to cool completely (freeway). I would have ran them again had I not found a set of Redstuffs for $25/delivered. These did have a good life, two years and about 35000 miles.

The Redstuffs seem more like a stock pad. Havent tried to really heat them up and probably never will with the car going up for sale. Supposedly they are able to handle very high temps. Dusting seems good but I cant quite judge that well with the E0s being painted dark, metallic gray. These pads didnt seem to have the same bite as the Mintex pads.

The car these were on was a `96 with rear discs and ATE Super Blue brake fluid. Rotors were replaced with the Mintex pads and turned for the EBCs. Brake fluid was flushed about six months before the Mintex install.

I do need to watch this thread as the Cougar needs pads. I am contemplating the Yellowstuffs (FSVT calipers) since the car will be more of a limited use weekend car.

Weargle - Really? I've heard very conflicting things about the RedStuff/GreenStuff pads. The general consensus seems to be that they're good pads - although most have reccommended me Hawk instead, for a streetable auto-x or track pad. What's your experience?

Does anyone know if they only available for the E0, or if the rest of us can have them? Also, where are people getting the HPS?

Really. From my friends, the backing plate on the EBCs brake better than the compound did. Think about it. Friction material is always black; if you color stuff, you have to dilute the blackness with a color, and then you lose braking capabilities.

I would *never* chintz on brake pads. Ever. That's the last thing that I would ever want to go south.

Call Matt Nicholson at Carbotech if you ever want to learn too much about brakes. http://www.carbotecheng.com/contact.htm If you have old crappy brake pads, they'll put their compound onto your old backing plates too. You might remember MadMatt from the legenfrickindary altima thread.

They list the svt as contour stv. And their stuff is expensive. I have hawks on my escort and would definitely recommmend them. On the contour I have pbr which are pretty good, quiet, and probably last longer than hawk. I had mintex a/f which lasted a long time but weren't that impressive.

My Redstuffs were only red on the backing plate and the edge of the friction material, just like any other pad.

Tirerack now lists the HPS front and rear. Is there any pad more track-worthy that that available for stock calipers? Is there anything that performs the same for less money ($81 front $69 rear)? I need a streetable pad, but I'll probably toast them at the track anyway, so the track is all I'm really concerned about.
