It's 4am and I've been up since 2 with an attack of acid reflux. Damn this sucks! I know nobody cares but I need to vent to someone, and the Wife (a) is asleep and (b) has suffered from reflux for years so wouldn't be sympathetic anyway. Thus I turn to the board for pity.
OWWWW!!! Pity me damn it!!!

I feel your pain. I have problems with stomach acids also. Been ongoing for a while now. I get nausea from any of the following; when my stomach is full, I don't feel full, just nauseous, laughing hard for more than about 10 secs, crying, and nervousness. Now, I know it's common for those types of things to trigger nausea, but mine is not normal. It happens too easy. My doctor recently put me on a 15 day sample of Nexium to try to correct the problem. It worked amazing during that time and I never felt better. My next visit I'll ask for a prescription for alot more than 15 days.

join the club man - I have errosive esophigitis
Heartburn from Hell as I like to call it.
I have recently changed my eating habits and I have only had to take my medicine (Nexium) 5 times in a month. The other side effect of eating "better" is that I have lost 20 lbs - and I dont have to spend $140 on prescriptions each month.

o can relate. I think i have an ulcer. My stomach can be very sensitive sometimes, and also I get some WICKED acid reflux. My uncle gave me some prescription prevacid, which helps a bit...but i try to moderate how much i take because I only have a limited supply of pills.
Anyway, you can pick up pepcid AC over the counter now, tagamet too i think. Why don't you give those a try??

some notes for you don't eat at least 3 hours before bedtime elevate your head when you sleep try to sleep only on your back (this part sucks for me) don't overeat at anytime spicy foods don't affect me much, but avoid them beer is NASTY bad for you (at least light beers annihilate me) get some nexium - i had prevacid and had to use tums, etc to help battle the burn... good luck, this crap used to keep me up at night - now nexium helps amazingly...

All PPIs are for daily use and take a couple days before they work to their full effect. H2 Blockers work in 30-45 minutes and should be taken before meals that cause problems, however they can be used once problems have started, but you'll have to wait the 30-45 minutes before getting any relief. Pepcid Complete has both an H2 and 2 antacids. The antacids work fastest, because they neutralize the acid. Tums woks, but the calcium in it may cause relapse in the acid release.
PPIs: Rx; Nexium, Prevacid, Protonix, Aciphex (no avail generics) OTC: Prilesec. Note, this should not be taken more than 14 days without MD approval (must rule out other problems)
H2 Blockers: OTC= Zantac 75, Zantac 150, Pepcid, Tagamet (careful with this one as it has MANY drug interactions)
Antacids: Calcium Carbonate (Tums), Magnesium Carbonate(Tums complete and others), Sodium Bicarbonate (baking Soda... lol yes it will work if you can get it down)
Any questions, PM me

Pepcid Complete does work REALLY well for short-term relief - so he makes a great point!
