i've had acid refux (doctor confirmed) since 2001 and for god knows how long before that so i know exactly what you mean. i tried aciphex, protonix and prevacid with little effect. nexium, however, is amazing although i no longer take it. instead i prefer to avoid the foods that trigger my troubles and take zantac on those times i am unsuccessful. tomatos and anything containing them are satan's spawn as far as i am concerned and i avoid them at all cost. sadly, spicy food is very bad as well so i have to be careful when i eat thai food. most citrus fruits are bad as well. when it comes to juice i have learned to stick to certain brands. minute maid has a low acid orange juice that i have no problem with myself which is good because i will not give it up. i am fine with jamba juice provided i choose carefully but i can't go to juice stop or juice it up without ill effects. in my own experience i have found and mens health has also claimed that drinking tea, hot or cold, can help as well. i do not have trouble eating late although i know others who do. off the top of my head the other foods i know are generally trouble are:
-egg rolls
-bbq sauce
-chocolate anything
-raspberries
-greasy foods like hash browns
-most spices, with thai or cajun you can expect much displeasure
-soda, or any similarly carbonated beverage
-peppercorns
-some flavors of cheez its for some unknown reason
-strawberries
-italian unless it is home made to avoid trouble
-mexican unless it is home made to avoid trouble

given the choice of stepping up to crippling pain (been there done that) or have refulx i will galdly man up to the pain. refulx is nasty and just plain blows.

Thanks for the sympathy and advice. After posting this last nite I took 2 OTC Zantac and I was feeling much better in about an hour. My wife takes prescription Zantac (ranitidine) and her rx is equal to 2 OTC pills which is why I doubled up like that. Next time I won't wait 2 hours to take the Zantac!

Fortunately for me I only get it a couple times a year so I just deal with it when it happens; next time I'll be better equipped thanks to you guys and gals. Thanks!

Scott
