The buildings didn't explode outward. What we saw on the footage was the remaining fragments of the planes shooting out the other side of each building.
As for the beams in the basement, first we need to determine whether that did indeed happen. If it did, there are plenty of rational explanations for it... like there was volatile material stored down there, or burning fuel ran down an air passage, etc.
