where does the Viper fit into your classifications?
i dont see the vette as a "muscle car". its a sports car with supercar performance, the Z06 anyway.
I wouldn't call the GT a "supercar." I'd call it a very expensive sportscar. Supercar, to me, is Enzo territory.
Not every Ferrari is a "supercar."
And people don't get or stay rich (for long) without considering economics. You think a guy who's moving into that price range doesn't consider which car can give him the most bang for the buck? (Whatever he considers "bang" to be...)
Again, I love the GT.
But before it was fully developed, I had hopes that it would be in Z06 and Viper territory. Turns out it's not the same animal at all.
There are a couple of them in town here, but one dealer has IIRC a sticker of about $180k while the guy across town has one listed for $240k. What the heck kind of option package is on that?

The article says that Ford sold 1,302 GT's in 2005. Was that the ENTIRE production? Does anyone know? With the way people are totaling them left and right, they're getting rarer and rarer by the moment. I bet the prices are going to skyrocket over the next couple years after this announcement. At a bare minimum, they will stay steady.

Before I post my comment, let me just say the Ford GT is an amazing car, duh, but this is why the ZO6 rules: -its available at any Chevrolet dealership -limited production, not SCANT production -even w/ the current mark up, its the perf value champ -everyday supercar, does it get any better (yeah, it does, almost 30 mpg on the freeway) -The Vette has taken on everything from Ford and is still here, only missing one year of production (due to re-tooling for the 1984 model year) Sorry to drag this post down, but like the Cobra and Panteras before it, the Ford GT is/was just something of a gimmick, whereas the Corvette has endured throught the years! All along, being all-American, not some British bodied car, Italian bodies car or some "tribute" of days gone by Thank God GM had got that part of the Corvette right and who knows, the "SuperVette" may rear its head down the road, but like the ZO6, just an extension of the current car

If everyone did then not a single Lambo, Ferarri, Bugatti, Aston Martin, or countless other exotics, would ever be sold.

That's exactly right: "whatever he considers 'bang' to be".
The GT has a different kind of "bang" than a Z06 does. It's not aimed at the guy who's looking for best performance for the buck anymore than the Vanquish is (well, maybe a little more than the Vanquish is). Again, If you're the guy looking for how to get the most performance for your dollar, the GT isn't for you. But then neither are any exotics, since the EVO and the STi would trounce the living crap out of just about any car on the road in "performance/dollar". The number of extremely wealthy people in the world seriously dwelling on the decision of whether to get a GT or a Z06 is probably nil, and can certainly be counted on one hand.

My bad, I meant sports car not muscle car.
Viper is same.

It's a supercar.
Have you seen one? Think it would be practical to drive every day?
It's mid engined, just as the enzo.
Its performance is quite close to an enzo's. The GT has pretty skinny tires, with correctly sized tires, it'd be even closer in performance.
It's not based on a lower model car and is very low production.
The biggest difference between the two is cost. The GT just happens to be an almost affordable supercar.
I think Ford could have charged nearly twice as much and sold just as many.
They also could have boosted performance. But Ford just wanted to make a good car, not an enzo killer. And they had a target price range. They know that most the owners that buy them don't race them anyways. Those that do race them can modify them for much cheaper than an enzo can be.
PS: I saw three Z06s this weekend and no GTs (though one is at our local dealer).

I don't think anyone is saying that the Z06 doesn't outperform a GT especially for the cost.
But the Z06 is a really good performing sports car, not a supercar. The Z06 beats almost every production car made, but I don't think that'll hurt sales of any supercar.
The only car (aside from kit cars, cars not available here) that a z06 can be compared to is the Viper. And the Z06 outperforms it and cost less, but at the cost of good looks.

I think GTs may be able to sold at any dealer.
Our dealer in a small, not very affluent city has one. They're not even a SVT dealer.
