Supporting evidence? Holy fock, I'm driving and [trying] to maintain a car, not defend myself in a goddamned trial.
I am ASKING questions.
I don't know what the hell is wrong with this car.
You made two assumptions which are incorrect. The car does not leak any fluid and there is nothing touching the exhaust pipes.
Sheeeeeeeesh......
Okay, then lets take a step back and just view the problem from the beginning, forget what we've written before other than your car's symptoms.
All I've got is this as a symptom:
Originally posted by bohdi: When sitting at a dead stop, a strange smell tends to creep into the cabin - it's not totally constant, but it happens on a daily basis. It doesn't smell like honey roasted clutch or not enough oil in the engine
However the irritating part was that you jumped up and asked if it was the transmission fluid burning up? Since we all loath the redline wars so much, this kind of thing doesn't help. So if you care to add anything to your symptom list that is relevant, then please do. Otherwise, hopefully everyone with any possible experience with something like this will help to hit on the real cause.
Now just to work through this in my head: -Car stopped -Burn smell enters cabin * obvious that airflow through and under the car blows away the smoke/smell when moving* -happens every day -doesn't smell like clutch (or brakes then) - doesn't smell like not enough oil?? (thats new to me, I've never been able to smell lack of oil unless the engine burned up)
**So I have to go back to theory one until you provide more information. This would be that small fluid drops, and it coudl be just a few drops at a time, are dropping on a hot surface. And by the way, you can't see all the way up to your manifolds, you have no way of knowing without removing a bunch of [censored] if you have oil leaking from the rear valve cover down onto the top of the manifold. This would be the most logical culprit because when the car is not moving the small smoke vapors would be able to be sucked into the vents instead of pulled out under the car by airflow. IF, and I say IF it were your tranny fluid in an MTX, you would need to be almost completely dry for the friction to start baking the oil. Before that happened you would be hearing noises, grinding, feeling it, and have trouble shifting I bet. This is why it is high improbable, based on the symptoms you gave above.**
Anyone else know whats up?
