For the casual observer (read: "me"), trying to figure out what regular maintenance fluids/parts/whatever is LOATHESOME because it seems every other week the general consensus changes or availability stops.... I was just asking, not assuming...............

Nothing is leaking. Nothing is BBQing on the exhaust pipes - it smells like cooking trans fluid. Any idea as to why? The car has 120k miles, I'm sure everything you mention is applicable. Could those things you mention cause a burning trans smell? Dallas has had a VERY mild winter this year, so improperly weighted fluid should not apply.
