Does anyone make an upgraded oil pump for these engines? Is the Mazda 6's pump higher capacity than the one on the Escape block?

Thanks.

Yes it is due to the variable cam timing actuators.

I do not know for sure, but I do not see any reason why it won't fit, just need 3M4E or 5L8E pan and the YL8E pickup tube, since pyrocon says the YL8E pickup was still being used when the 3M4E pan was introduced with the Mazda6.

Yes, direct fit for any year 2.5L or 3.0L Duratec. Note, which pickup tube or pan is installed is irrelevant to the oil pump. Both pumps bolt up and fit the same. The difference is probably in the gerotor inside.

Great, thank you.

Any idea of the flow difference?

That's a possibility, but it's a lot of extra work and tubing, etc. Sometimes, the best solution is the most simple one.

Does anyone know the actual flow rate of the mazda and ford pumps?

The oil pump assembly in the Duratec is an exceptional unit.
The unit from the VVT engines is suppose to support slightly higher sustained pressure to compensate for the VVT functioning.

What exactly are you looking to gain in your quest to change the oil pump?
