When I am driving around 55mph, then hit the gas I hear a faint hissing sound, almost like a small blowoff valve. First thought it was the flywheel slipping, but my mechanic friend suggested it would happen more often. It only lasts a second or two. Thanks in advance.

I forgot to add that the heat appears to be working correctly, all settings and power.

LOL. But seriously, what year, engine, tranny and mileage? It sounds like some sort of vacuum leak, maybe on the vacuum dashpot. Are your heater functions fine as in, will it be at defrost or floor or panel when you turn to that direction? And any CEL codes? Get it scanned at Autozone or Advance even if the light is not on.

98 2.0 atx, 97000 miles. heater works in all correct positions. Perhaps next week will get it scanned at autozone to check that. No cel light. I really think it might be the tranny. For a more exact sound, crack your window just a tad at about fifty mph to get that high pitch noise. Kinda sounds like that but no where as loud, if you talk while it happens you can't hear it.

Do you have an aftermarket air filter on the car? Could be related to that.
