That's a clue there... I'm getting 20k or more out of soft PERFORMANCE tires.
I get 70k to 80k out of touring tires, but I usually replace them before the tread indicates just because I don't trust old rubber. I don't bother buying regular passenger car tires. They just aren't worth the trouble IMHO, especially when you can get touring tires for a really good price these days.
And YES, a good shop will put your car on the lift & check your alignment for you without charge. I make an appointment for an oil change & ask them to check the alignment while I'm there, just so I feel it's not a total waste of time for them.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.
