I was thinking of buying my landlord's 93 Lesabre, but apparently he found it leaking oil pretty bad. There is someone at work selling his 1987 BMW 325 with 200k miles for $1500. He is one of our mechanics and a certified BMW mechanic. He actually did all the maintenance/upkeep on this car for the first owner. He has/will replace alot of parts on it to make sure it's reliable. I thought that 200k was high, but his 528 (which has the same motor) has 300k and is his daily driver. I know OEM parts can be expensive, but Ebay has some great deals. Also since I work at a body shop, I can get better deals than retail. It justs seems like a fun car to drive. It should ride better than the Contour (worn out struts), handle better, and get good MPG (around 30). Has anyone here owned one or have any constuctive comments? I've already been check out a few BMW E30 sites.

Go for it. At 200k miles it's still a baby. The E30s were built like tanks and will run forever with proper maintenance, which it sounds like this one has had. I'm laying odds it's got the eta motor, tuned for low revving torque, vs. the i/is motor with higher revving horsepower. Great drivers and great handling with minimal mods. Heck, if you don't want it I have half a mind to buy it, too bad it's too far away for me.

Yeah, sounds like a 325e to me as well.

$2k seems a little on the high side but if it really is in great shape (as it seems to be), I wouldn't sweat it too much.

5-speed I hope?

I guess it's the "e" model. It's definitely not the IS. The engine is rated at 120hp and 170lb/ft. I want a cool car too. And I've always loved that body style. Mods are relatively cheap and have good gains. The fact that I work with him, know he won't screw me over, and is a BMW mechanic makes me feel alot better about buying it. He has to finish up a few things and put the radiator back in. I'll test drive it then. Pretty sure I'm gonna buy it. BTW, it's a 5 speed.
