Correct. Typical in front drive cars - CV joints. Last innards of an axle I looked at were from a Toyota Corolla. Little tri-pod roller configuration, I've seen pictures of some that use large ball bearing arrangements.

If you're curious & you've got a Haynes manual, it may have a picture of the inner axle assembly as part of the overhaul proceedure...
