If thats a plexiglass window on the second I say go for #2 for sure, Pete. Its easier to keep tabs on your filter, not to mention I like the polished intake pipe better.

Back on topic. AutoX, Ive been wanting to make something very similar to this for a while now, you may have just given me my motivation. Considering it can be done for next to nothing if you have minimal skills, why the hell not give it a shot.
I was thinking after I made mine that I would use it as a mold a make one out of fiberglass or something that might not absorb so much heat [as the metal]. That you use some reflective tape on the outside. I dunno.
