You guys keep this up and you'll end up full circle back to an OEM intake airbox.

Boxing the filter in makes it near the same as a stock SVT cone filter. Improve the inlet to the cone filter and you will solve much of the issues with the SVT one, which solves much of the issues with the normal duratec one.

SVTs came with cone filters? Huh, did not know that.

There's no huge problem with the stock airbox, and if I could clean it up and fit a higher flowing filter in it as easliy as fab this, I'd go for it. This sounds better, though

Freaking A, guys, I cleaned it up! It looks fine now, the only part that wasn't nice was the top. I just bashed it down because I knew it would be covered.

I picked up a thermometer at Wal-Mart for under $10. It has a wire lead about 1m long with a tiny sensor on the end, records temps on the remote sensor and on the unit, and stores high and low values for each. It even has a light for the display - although the LCD must be held at an angle to read it with the light. Waddaya expect for eight bucks?

I placed the sensor into the airflow with my real intake temp sensor, through a hole in the accordian hose. It read spot-on outside air temps the whole way back. I currently have foam on the top of the box to seal it to the hood. With that gone, it went up 3-4*. That's not much, but it was measureable, and consistent. It's also a very small crack at the top of the box, so I think sealing is pretty critical.

I think it'll fit in a vacuum tap, so I might try this with the sensor in the UIM. I just have to make sure it can't get sucked in!

I gotta agree, it seems like everyone wants to reinvent the wheel It's a nice mod after using an open element airfilter which doesn't do a damn thing except sound really cool.

I bet a stock airbox which has the proper conical shape and a larger inlet welded to it using a piece of abs tubing jammed into the fenderwell would make as much hp as one of these boxes pictured here. Paint it you favorite color and voila! Function and beauty for about 5 bucks
