I had the engine replaced in my '95 2.0 Contour. Seems like valves or rockers or something else is clikcing, especially when cold. It doesn't go away when warmed up, it's just more faint. I can understand some clicking for a couple of seconds when I start the car, but once warmed up it shouldn't do it.

THe engine is under warranty for another 2 months, but I would have to leave the car there (50 miles from home), and get a bus to get back then a bus to get to work (another 50 miles). It's just not practical to leave it there for a couple of days.

Are the valves self-adjusting on a '95 4-banger Contour (meaning I'm screwed), or can they be adjusted? I tried to find the information here, but couldn't find it.

I wouldn't worry. Mine does the same. It is prolly the timing belt just touching something, or just basic valvetrain noise.

The valve clearance is adjusted by measuring and replacing all 16 individual spacers called "buckets". I would only attempt this if hot clearance is out and wear is obvious. A rebuilt head might be a better choice.

I assume this is a used engine.
Some noise is normal. If the valves are sticking the noise will be worse. A good oil additive may help.

So basicly, besides sounding like an old beater, it will do fine?

I brought the car back to them. Turns out it's not the head, it's the crank itself. So they're putting in another engine. (no fee, under warranty)

What are the laws in Quebec, Canada concerning car repairs?

(i'm under warranty on the previous engine (3 months), now will I have another 3 months, or will it be under the same warranty (i'm more sure about that one

Nevertheless, I'll test it when I get it back.
