I've never seen them on a pre98, though. Always on mid-level 98+

Ok, I'm going to play with my "jump to conclusions mat" and say on 95-97 that they are "premium" wheels, just under the SE rims (that
this LX is sporting). Both engines use em.
On 98+ seem to be the premium rims for Zetec cars. 98+ Duratecs on Autotrader are either sporting the 8 spokers, or hubcaps.
