$110 for welding? I went to a shop near me and the guy charges me $20-$30 and I watch him weld it all in about 5 mins. $110 sounds like a ripoff.

I will post up pics this week, but I am building up my 3L block for the Contour this week/next weekend. This past weekend I finished one head and am to the point of cutting in the injector port and filling the center injector port. I documented the entire process, but have yet to download the images from my camera and post them in my writeup thread. When I do, I will cross reference the porting pictures here.

I'm using a product called "QuickSteel" to fill my center injector port. Within 15 minutes of setting up, I can smack it pretty good with a ballpeen hammer and she stays put. Within 24 hours, the stuff is fully cured and can be ported/sanded. Best part is it smells a little like bubble gum, so porting it actually makes the garage smell nice

This is what Ray's(RIP) 3L write-up called for, for filling in the oil passages on the Hybrids. I used a similar product that I bought from a CnC shop in town. It's help up great in the 3 years it's been running.

Every filler I could find only had an operating temp rating of 350 degrees sustained use ... that was the MAX ... most only sustained to 300 degrees. QuickSteel was the only one I could find rated higher. It's rated to 500 degrees sustained. That's not the only plus ... it's also the cheapest of all "fillers" that I have priced at less than $4/tube. Each tube will do 3-4 injector ports.

Yeah, but you have to understand that the intake air charge cools the intake as it comes into the engine. Unless you are way overheated it will never see 300 degrees continuous!

Well he decked the surface for me too. He said he had an hour or so of work on them the second time? But yea, I wasn't impressed by their work and will not go back there. It took him two weeks to get them finished too. Not to mention the fact that he cracked the intake side wall during welding (repaired them with welding) and the welds looked like complete [censored] too. I'm thinking he gave them to one of his "newer" employees to "practice" on. After I went back the welds looked more professional and smoothed out instead of ruffed cooled lava like blotches.

With decking included that's not so bad.
