Ok now on to the buisness of installing it in my tour. I have a Stock HU cd player. Is there any way i can install something that plugs into the ipods headphone port and goes to the back of the HU. I searched and some say it could be acomplished with a CD changer cable. I really don't want to do this with a FM transmitter but i don't want to buy a new HU even more. I'm willing to lose my Radio and just tap it in through there. Sorry if this is funny but i'm a audio newb. Any help will be apreciated.

not without spending some cash. some HUs are "iPod ready", but the kit to actually hook it up is $100 or so. the CD changer would probably be your next best bet, but seriously, if you don't want to spend any/much money, FM transmitter is your only option.

By far the best option is buying ANY head unit you like that has an AUX input, and picking up a cable by the company Nyko on eBay. It plugs into the AUX ports, and the dock of the iPod, meaning you don't get the poor sound quality you would have if you plugged into the headphone port. Also, the level is non-fading, which is nice. So cost would be $15 + head unit, but this obviously breaks your no new head rule.

Itrip (no price off the top of my head)
Belkin FM Transmiter both around 40 dollars.
Sound quality sucks for the most part though. Increasing antenna legth helps though, but requires opening the case
Other wise no other way except for ways mentioned above.
Another choice, the ear buds( I'm not responsible for any tickets give, due to this is illegal, well atleast in Iowa, and probly all other states)

We've tried both (4 iPods in my house and 3 cars), and the Belkin unit that plugs into the cigarette lighter and acts as a cradle (which costs ~$100). They all suck. Don't waste your time on FM transmitters. And if you live in a big city with lots of stations, you'll be lucky if you can get the signal at all.

currently using a belkin. But I also have a 3 foot antenna connected to it. This one also runs off 2 Triple A batteries.
And live about an hour from Minneapolis, St. Paul

itrips suck man dont get one. if you want it to sound good you have to get an ipod ready head unit, or there is a way to wire it up but then you wont be able to control it throught the head unit.

i have an FM transmitter and charger and it puts out sound fine, i cant really tell the difference at all, i found a good station too. Its all about finding a clear signal, as long as they arnt all used up you should be good to go.

I picked up a FM transmitter for my sister for her Ipod on Amazon, it was only $18.
